Speaking Truth to Power: Dating Violence, Intimate Partner Violence, and Survivor-Defined Advocacy
You are invited to “Speaking Truth to Power: Dating Violence, Intimate Partner Violence, and Survivor-Defined Advocacy” with Dr. Freda Grant, Adjunct Professor in Women and Gender Studies at Southern Connecticut State University.
While February is known for being the month of love and romance, it is also a key time to highlight that many people experience (or cause) harm in their relationships, no matter the structure (casual, exclusive, sexual, etc.) Black women and Queer people experience dating violence and intimate partner violence at unacceptably high rates, in part due to systemic racism, sexism, misogynoir, and Queerphobia.
Join us on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 for a critical community conversation that explores how to 1) identify and prevent dating violence and intimate partner violence, 2) support victims and survivors in safety planning and regaining control over their lives, and 3) hold ourselves and each other accountable in using alternatives beyond the police / legal system.
We’re claiming healing, surviving, and thriving in our dating experiences and intimate relationships ❤️🩹.
